Given the state of the world, it’s a great time to travel domestically and explore surrounding states. When it’s safe to do so, I recommend visiting Vermont! The Green Mountain State, as it’s known, is a gorgeous place to visit any time of year. Warm days invite leisurely swims in Lake Champlain and abundant maple creemees (that’s what Vermonters call soft serve!). Cold weather calls for exciting ski days at Stowe or Sugarbush followed by evenings warming up by a wood stove. From brilliant fall foliage to quaint covered bridges, there’s so much to treasure in the lush, forested state of Vermont.

Thanks to its rich agricultural history and new wave of food-related innovation, Vermont is also the ideal vacation spot for foodies. Full of breweries, dairy farms, and sugar houses (did you know that Vermont produces more maple syrup than any other state?), Vermont will make sure you eat and drink well during your stay.

If you don’t live nearby or can’t make it there, fear not! You can still enjoy some of Vermont’s finest food and beverage offerings, from maple syrup to cheese to cider. Check out the following four brands to experience Vermont’s thriving food scene at home.

Jasper Hill Farm is a working dairy farm with an on-site creamery that makes artisan cheeses of the highest quality. If you’re a blue cheese fan, you should try their Bayley Hazen Blue! It’s toasty, creamy, and peppery all at once and pairs beautifully with a glass of red wine. Baird Farm in Chittenden, Vermont creates organic maple syrup; their classic flavor begs to be poured on pancakes and waffles. Branon Family Maple Orchards sells maple syrup in a variety of containers and levels of richness so you can find your perfect match. Citizen Cider makes some of the best hard cider out there with fresh, locally sourced apples. The Dirty Mayor, a refreshing, gingery cider, is a fan favorite.
