C
Every year for the past several years, I have made the same chocolate cake with chocolate frosting for my sister’s birthday.  Although my sister is a chocolate fiend, this chocolate-on-chocolate combo is mild enough that non-chocovores will enjoy it as well.  The cake is a traditional German chocolate cake; however, this icing is just a classic chocolate frosting instead of the expected German chocolate frosting that’s a caramelized coconut-pecan blend.

This cake was just one small part of our Friendsgiving Birthday Party celebration.  We paired it with Champagne, of course.   It wasn’t the only dessert–there was also a bourbon pecan pie.  (And plenty of real food, too!)

I used the Baker’s German Chocolate Cake recipe for the cake layers, and Hershey’s “Perfectly Chocolate” Frosting Recipe.

I LOVE chocolate!! This is my favorite cake to eat; however, because of the challenge it is not my favorite to make.

Mom, you are absolutely right about this cake being challenging to make!! I’d say it is one of the most challenging cakes by far. There is always the danger of your cake layers not rising enough. I am always extra careful with folding the egg whites in.

Oh my this sounds so delicious! It makes be want a german chocolate cake or something with some good ole southern pecans. My virtual taste buds are still savoring your bourbon pecan pie of several weeks ago. “Virtual” because I’m not attempting to make or eat this by myself, so I might persuade one of my children to help me make it over the holidays.

You absolutely should! I can give one of them a little lesson on how I made it 🙂
